A bit of the 50’s

She only took me 2 days , it’s hard to believe I must be getting better at this craft ,or I am skipping details. anyways I love her, ………………so shes done… I love tearing the paper’s and seeing things appear , at first they look kind of undone and not right . But the good thing about this  art is if you don’t like the results you can always tear up more paper and cover up the mistakes….. oh wait there are no mistakes only happy findings………

Session 4-Focal Point: Words, Images Session 5-Details: Pen, Pencil

Session 4: Focal Point
Words-think magazine ads, alphabet stickers, newspaper headlines, print outs, etc.
Images-think magazines pics, downloaded graphics, die cuts, family photos, etc.

When you’re gathering supplies you might be tempted to hand pick items for each individual page. Don’t do it! Flip through your journal to get an idea for what you might want to use. CLOSE your journal then go to your stash and pick out a bunch of possible items to use as a focal point for your pages. Choose more than you will need so that you will have the freedom to change your mind or head in a different direction at the last minute.

If you need to secure any of your collaged items, this is a good time to do that. No time limit, just take whatever time you need to secure down any loose edges with whatever glue you prefer to use.

Session 5: Details
Pens-think drawing pens, paint pens, markers, gel pens, etc.
Pencils-think graphite, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, chalks, etc.

You’re going to want a lot more time for this session but don’t cheat yet! Make simple marks and shapes, outline a few images, start a doodled border, etc. Just do a little something on each page.

All 5 sessions will take you an hour and 15 minutes. When you’re done, you might have a completed 20 page journal but it’s more likely that you will have 20 pages that you’re absolutely dying to continue working on! From here you can repeat the process again, or schedule your own 15 minute free play sessions where you make the rules. You might have some strong ideas about where you want your pages to go and you don’t feel like you need the time limit anymore. Go for it!!

Any of various large insects of the order Odonata or suborder Anisoptera, having a long slender body and two pairs of narrow, net-veined wings that are usually held outstretched while the insect is at rest. Also called regionally darnerdarning needledevil’s darning needleear sewermosquito flymosquito hawk, needleskeeter hawksnake doctorsnake feederspindle.
Regional Note: Regional terms for the dragonfly are numerousthe Dictionary of American Regional English lists nearly 80 of them. The greatest variety of terms is to be found in the South, where the most widespread term is snake doctor (a name based on a folk belief that dragonflies take care of snakes). The Midland equivalent is snake feeder. Speakers from the Lower South and the Mississippi Valley, on the other hand, are more likely to refer to the same insect as a mosquito fly, mosquito hawk, or, in the South Atlantic states, a skeeter hawk. The imagery outside the South often alludes to the insect’s shape rather than its behavior or diet: speakers in the West, Upper North, and New England call it a darner, darning needle, or, less commonly, a devil’s darning needle, and those in the Upper North also refer to it just as aneedle; those in Coastal New Jersey, a spindle; and those in the San Francisco Bay area, an ear sewer, that is, a creature that sews up your ears.
now you can change things add things  what ever ….. I will post mine now so you can see what I did.  Cant wait to see what you all come up with.post a link here to yours…. later ………..

Zentangle white out art

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAStarted out with doing some Zentangle art .    then some white stenciling of different sizes of circles with  paint… and some red script stamped on the white paint. Using regular  ACRYLIC Paints.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext I stamped a Rose with black paint and let it dry, then out lined it in White using a WHITE OUT PEN.. {LOVE THEM} cheaper then most art markers plus you can refill them… LOVE IT!     The step that I saw on the video was they blacked out all around the rose but I spent so much time on it that I decided to use white and incorporate it into the art.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yup I like the way this ended up totally different  from what I wanted but loving it any ways………. now for my next art adventure………….. later……….. going to cut out some card stock paper to make  some faux chip board… for the next project…. later………….

making Stencils for mix media art…..

I have made some stencils for glass etchings and different types of stencils for projects using different items, Plastic coating for furniture covers, it was really hard to  cut in small areas but great for a silhouette, and for etchings or paper stencil. Also used heavy card stock and then coated it with crystal lacquer, works real well , that’s in a later blog that works with Cricut …….  So now the stencils results for Vinyl  contact paper its real hard to get it to cut and do the corners or peak cuts but if you take your time and re cut it does work. The good thing is contact paper is large enough to cover all at once.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

now when using a magazine photo , I really love this idea of USING package tape. tape your photo right over the picture you want then cut out the details, This is a favorite right now, lov this idea. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Thank you for your inspiration…..

making my own stencils….

I have been playing with different types of ways to make stencils. I used clear transparent contact paper, it s really hard to get good cuts on this.  I thought it would be great for protecting the papers from paint inks or what ever I throw at  My home made stencils.  I”ve used plastic furniture cover material in the past , also it was real cool because it sticks well to stencil on your paper.  But STILL didn’t get a clear cut. I did make some stencils of my own designs of Johhny Depp …{CRY BABY}  and Dave Matthews and some others a while back. for glass etching.  It took days and was a real long process and I didnt use a coating on them and could only use them a couple times.. But Then I was taking  some FREE ART CLASSES on line. From  Terri Sproul on facebook. {Tell HER I SENT YOU…} A little plug for a friendly Artist. Any ways  she was cutting out photos from magazines using the  silhouette’s as stencils glue the photo to card stock place PACKING TAPE TO FRONT AND BACK of photo then cut out. the tape will protect your stencil, from all the fun things You throw at it .. Like Texture magic, spackle plaster, ECT.

PAINT AND PEEL….with ranger non stick craft sheet…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAchoose 4 or 5 paint colors, I use acrylic paint for this, apply paint in strips squeeze it out add some dots ,circles whatever designs you like.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASpread out the paint making it smooth , but not to deep , just sort of smoothing out and spreading , not to thin because you’ll be peeling it..now let DRY….. Waiting is the hard part…..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANow that it is good and dry, peel the paint….the under side is usally the PRETTY side….. but which ever you like the best…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Add glue the the item you wish to glue the paint too, I like to smooth the glue out with my fingers then apply the paint  and smooth out air bubbles . you can use any type glue for this.  you can use this on any thing paper, wood, journal pages, ect..

Craft Tips for Creating with Paperclay® Products.

Angel ornament notecard   Craft Tips for Creating with Paperclay® Products.

1. Working Surface – Place plastic wrap (pieces cut from trash bags work well) over your work surface to prevent sticking. If you’re working on a waterproof surface, moisten the area beneath the plastic to anchor it to the table. Waxed paper may also be used, but it doesn’t hold up as well. You may also want to keep a small container of water on hand for thinning and smoothing Paperclay®.

2. Rolling it out – Put the Paperclay® on one end of the plastic wrap. Fold the other end of the plastic over to cover the Paperclay®. Then use a rolling pin to roll out to the desired thickness.

3. Imprinting – After rolling out Paperclay®, remove the top layer of the plastic and lay lace or any other textured fabric directly on top of the Paperclay® and roll again to get the unique textures and patterns.

4. Covering Objects – To cover or embellish an object with Paperclay®, wet it with a small amount of water before applying the Paperclay®. Paperclay® sticks well to most surfaces, but if you have a problem, you can always use white glue.

5. Using molds – The method used to release Paperclay® from molds depends on the type of mold used. When using plastic molds there are several methods for release:

  • Leave Paperclay® in mold overnight, it will dry and shrink slightly so it will come out of the mold easily the next day.
  • Cover the mold with a very thin coat of liquid soap.
  • Sprinkle talcum powder in the mold.
  • Spray the mold with a mold release (Armor All® works great!).
  • Cover the mold with a piece of nylon and then press in the Paperclay®.
  • When using plaster molds use talcum powder or the nylon method to remove Paperclay® from the mold immediately or it may stick to and damage the mold.

6. Drying Paperclay® – Small items will generally dry in a day or so depending on room temperature and humidity. Larger projects may take a few days to completely dry. If you’re in a hurry, you may put your unpainted projects in a 250 degree oven for 30 minutes or until dry.

7. Sanding, carving, etc. – After Paperclay® dries, it can be sanded and carved like wood. You can also build on to a completely dry Paperclay® object by just applying fresh Paperclay® (see #4).

8. Painting – Once Paperclay® is dried, it can be painted with any type of paint. After painting, spray with a clear acrylic spray sealer if desired. Paperclay® may also be colored by kneading water base paint into it before shaping.

9. Storage – After you have opened a package keep the unused portion in an air tight bag. If it should happen to dry out slightly while you’re working or it’s in the bag, simply knead in a few drops of water to restore its pliability.

Follow these helpful hints and have fun!
