Session 4-Focal Point: Words, Images Session 5-Details: Pen, Pencil

Session 4: Focal Point
Words-think magazine ads, alphabet stickers, newspaper headlines, print outs, etc.
Images-think magazines pics, downloaded graphics, die cuts, family photos, etc.

When you’re gathering supplies you might be tempted to hand pick items for each individual page. Don’t do it! Flip through your journal to get an idea for what you might want to use. CLOSE your journal then go to your stash and pick out a bunch of possible items to use as a focal point for your pages. Choose more than you will need so that you will have the freedom to change your mind or head in a different direction at the last minute.

If you need to secure any of your collaged items, this is a good time to do that. No time limit, just take whatever time you need to secure down any loose edges with whatever glue you prefer to use.

Session 5: Details
Pens-think drawing pens, paint pens, markers, gel pens, etc.
Pencils-think graphite, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, chalks, etc.

You’re going to want a lot more time for this session but don’t cheat yet! Make simple marks and shapes, outline a few images, start a doodled border, etc. Just do a little something on each page.

All 5 sessions will take you an hour and 15 minutes. When you’re done, you might have a completed 20 page journal but it’s more likely that you will have 20 pages that you’re absolutely dying to continue working on! From here you can repeat the process again, or schedule your own 15 minute free play sessions where you make the rules. You might have some strong ideas about where you want your pages to go and you don’t feel like you need the time limit anymore. Go for it!!

valentine journal spread

I was playing around with ink sprays, and texture magic. I am running low on that stuff so I decided to make my own. with the baby powder…….Its like a cross between spackle and mud… I must have had been holding my tongue wrong , because it s working more like quick sand then a medium , and  When it finally dries  . It cracks and falls off what a mess. I think I’ll just buy it instead… LOL… 50 percent off  coupons are needed… well I scraped it off and started it over again. so the  dimension isn’t quite what I wanted on the cupid angel. but shes good  for now until I get more texture…

Week 6 Prompt: Window

For this week’s prompt, think windows of opportunity, the view from your window, beautiful stained glass windows, quotes about windows – whatever resonates the most with you. You can paint, doodle, draw, collage – or a combination of all of the above – whatever you are most comfortable with!

this one was different it was a start of a winter photo taken by one of my sons and I printed it in black and white . then used my water color pens and white out for snow and water colors for my raccoon, layered the windows wit double sided sticky tape to give it the depth. and added plastic from projector sheet for window..  its so cold out and stormy the poor raccoon’s looking for pietie marshmallows for his HOT cocoa… {from running Scared….. Mama. Mama! Out here! Hey, Gonzales. ….. Can I have some more petite marshmallows in my hot cocoa?

Its all I could think of ….LOL…………………….OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

cone shape’s Halloween challenge……..

So the challenge was cone shape decorations for Halloween….. And Well I love mine … Had some help from my grand daughter Elizabeth, she tore the napkins and cut the paper for the shingles witch is another project… LOL… so We have been  very busy creating the halloween   fun …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAstarted off with poster board type paper and made cones. then used our great glue recipe .. which is below……

Step 1:Squirt 3/4 cup of Elmer’s white glue into a measuring cup.

Step 2:Add 1/4 cup of water to the Elmer’s glue in the measuring cup. Alter the measurements to make the amount of decoupage medium that you need for your project. The ratio of glue to water is always three parts Elmer’s glue to one part water.

tear paper napkins in strips add the glue mixture with a sponge brush. layering all around to give the cones strength. paint the colors in sections add the fluffy fur for hat rims.orange for the pumpkin man, green for the witch don’t forget to give her a cone nose…… and of   COURSE    MR. SKELETON!!!!!!!!!!

Prayer shrine

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI made this pin and put Mary in the charm, Back in the old days they would take photos of the love one for the inside and place a lock of hair ,  first communion medal , holy medals , or prayer beads. And placed On the back a prayer card or tribute. I used my parents cards from the funeral home. I took apart the left hand side and used the cardboard insert inside and placed a small bit of fiber stuffing {like used for stuffing teddy bears} and covered the board with yellow felt, I didn’t have any velvet.made a brooch to place in it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAthen I added the photo of Mary to the right side and put the glass back on it, and glued my trinkets to the glass with E600 glue

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPainted the outline braid on the frame GOLD.. and some of the words metals were silver so O painted them gold, to match.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPainted the outline gold, and Cut the large square triangle into corner pieces and glued on.And added the key for center …

face s are fun to paint

I am  practicing, painting faces its a paint over the face lesson to learn where and how to paint the eyes and nose ect. in the correct areas and it also help s you to notice where the shading goes. I really like how this is going. and hope to do more of this type of painting.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dance of the dragon fly….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAthe sealer is still wet but shes pretty much done now….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

here”s the photos , now lets see what you can do with them .

8-free-dragonfly-clip-art-l

anax-black-and-white

Any of various large insects of the order Odonata or suborder Anisoptera, having a long slender body and two pairs of narrow, net-veined wings that are usually held outstretched while the insect is at rest. Also called regionally darnerdarning needledevil’s darning needleear sewermosquito flymosquito hawk, needleskeeter hawksnake doctorsnake feederspindle.
Regional Note: Regional terms for the dragonfly are numerousthe Dictionary of American Regional English lists nearly 80 of them. The greatest variety of terms is to be found in the South, where the most widespread term is snake doctor (a name based on a folk belief that dragonflies take care of snakes). The Midland equivalent is snake feeder. Speakers from the Lower South and the Mississippi Valley, on the other hand, are more likely to refer to the same insect as a mosquito fly, mosquito hawk, or, in the South Atlantic states, a skeeter hawk. The imagery outside the South often alludes to the insect’s shape rather than its behavior or diet: speakers in the West, Upper North, and New England call it a darner, darning needle, or, less commonly, a devil’s darning needle, and those in the Upper North also refer to it just as aneedle; those in Coastal New Jersey, a spindle; and those in the San Francisco Bay area, an ear sewer, that is, a creature that sews up your ears.
now you can change things add things  what ever ….. I will post mine now so you can see what I did.  Cant wait to see what you all come up with.post a link here to yours…. later ………..

I got so excited forgot to write dragon flies dancing……………….

Torn magazine paper art…

I have been wanting to try this for some time its on the long list of things to try. And its alot of fun kind of like putting a puzzle together, but more fun tear your own shapes. The first thing to do is to draw a shape on paper and cut it out, I did a bird.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAdraw the size and shape to add to your page . cut it out with scissors, then figure out colors you want to use and tear pages with the colors out of magazine. then tear with your fingers in to shapes you want to fit your drawn bird, place and look it see if you like it , then glue it in place, you’ll get so that you guess the size pretty quick.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I decided to do another bird for the other page so this time I made torn background scene and the bird. I got so involved I forgot to take photos. But I am sure you get the idea..OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Zentangle white out art

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAStarted out with doing some Zentangle art .    then some white stenciling of different sizes of circles with  paint… and some red script stamped on the white paint. Using regular  ACRYLIC Paints.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext I stamped a Rose with black paint and let it dry, then out lined it in White using a WHITE OUT PEN.. {LOVE THEM} cheaper then most art markers plus you can refill them… LOVE IT!     The step that I saw on the video was they blacked out all around the rose but I spent so much time on it that I decided to use white and incorporate it into the art.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yup I like the way this ended up totally different  from what I wanted but loving it any ways………. now for my next art adventure………….. later……….. going to cut out some card stock paper to make  some faux chip board… for the next project…. later………….

making Stencils for mix media art…..

I have made some stencils for glass etchings and different types of stencils for projects using different items, Plastic coating for furniture covers, it was really hard to  cut in small areas but great for a silhouette, and for etchings or paper stencil. Also used heavy card stock and then coated it with crystal lacquer, works real well , that’s in a later blog that works with Cricut …….  So now the stencils results for Vinyl  contact paper its real hard to get it to cut and do the corners or peak cuts but if you take your time and re cut it does work. The good thing is contact paper is large enough to cover all at once.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

now when using a magazine photo , I really love this idea of USING package tape. tape your photo right over the picture you want then cut out the details, This is a favorite right now, lov this idea. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
